Perfection is a man named Tony Kic. Not sure what that says about Monday's series kick-off out at PIR but it makes me laugh. I pretty much enjoy heckling Tony more than I do racing and I took this picture of him out there and came up with that as a caption over on my Flickr page. It's funny to be funny, I guess.

I love Short Track a lot. The racing is fun but it's the camaraderie of the evening that I love the most. Mrs. The CD brings the boys and we enjoy picnic dinners while watching the big dogs race after my singlespeed event. And this year's series got off to an awesome start. And I know awesome. In fact, you can't spell awesome without me.
This season, the team director at Super-Relax extended an invitation to Rod wear the proud pastel colors and talking acorns. He was over the moon with excitement when I presented him with his very own jersey just before his race. First we watched Stewart scoot his Skuut bike around for one lap and he seemed to finally have a good time. Next up -Rod's two lap event. Right from the start he filled in with the fast kids up front and had a great old time out there. I am so proud of how well the kid did and that he rode and had a good time without worrying if his parents were watching. Oh, and no theatrics, either. Something must have connected in his brain because we couldn't get him off of his bike after that. There's a parking lot that folks use as a warm area and Rod ended up doing something like 40 laps. Crazy.
My event snuck up on me and I almost missed the start because I was out with Rod doing warm-up laps. I snuck up to the line with about 60 seconds to go and ended up finding a good start spot. I had a good start for me but ended up letting it go to my head about 3/4 of the way through lap #1.

I began thinking about all the guys behind me and how fast they are. "How am I gonna beat them off?", I wondered. Um, no maybe that's not what I thought. It was more like hold them off or something like that. Uggh, that's gross. Maybe it's the mustache doing the talking. Anyway...

I settled into a groove and did alright. I know I can do a lot better and plan on it next week. The course, for once, was a flowing ribbon of dirt and not an interval necklace. I could keep a rhythm and not suffer from lack of training. It was a fun course with berms, whoops, and lots of fast turns. I'm pretty sure the promoters heard about it from everyone and I expect the courses to have more flow from now on. Fine by me.

Best Picture Ever.
